Shit for brains.

Are you born stupid, or is it something you grow into?

I live in a small place behind the main house where the owner and his Mother live.

There is an old wooden gate with a piece of string attached to the latch which is on the out going side. You pull the string to get out.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we had a massive downpour of rain. The slats in the gate swelled so much I couldn't get out, so times (so far) I've had to ring the main house so of them could open the gate from the outside.

The last time I said something had to be d.

Saw the Mother yesterday and asked what was going to be d. I couldn't believe how fucking stupid her ( the owner is). He said there was nothing wrong with the wood, so he was going to attach a different type of string, and spray the gate with WD40.

Any can see the terrible state the wooden slats are in. The only thing that will fix it, is a new gate.

Last time I asked them to do something, neither of them spoke to me for a month. Wish moving was possible.

There are all kinds of stupid & that often includes academically or otherwise smart people but sounds like this one was born that way & continued to train for it! The up side is that they may not talk to you for a month!!!

Was so uncomfortable last time they gave me the silent treatment, don't want to go through that again.

Wouldn't be too bad if there was a bit of distance between us, but there's only a few feet between the two dwellings.

Thanks for popping in.

Wish it was just the latch, then I would replace it myself.

It's the wooden slats and support that has swollen so badly, so need replacing.

As the great Ron White says, " You cain't fix stupid"!!

I can forgive ignorance, but stupidity is a whole other world!!
Last time I looked, definition of ignorance was, "the lack of knowledge".
Stupidity is the practice of the lack of knowledge!!

The owner has had loads of practice of being stupid. This is not the 1st time I've had this problem among other things.

Write him a letter. Document the dates you spomw to them about fixing it. Advise them that if not fixed in 5 days you will cix it and deduct the cost from your next rent..
When you do move fall behind to the value of your security deposit and just leave.

I would love to fall behind in rent when leaving, but it would affect the next place I want to move to, as I will have a black mark against my name with our Rental Board. It will also go out to the Real Estate agents that I didn't pay my rent.

If not fixed today, I'll give a friend a call that has a plane, she's planed it back last time it happened. Ok as a temporary fix, but it's too far gone to last long.

He is a real pain in the arse. Wouldn't be surprised if Mummy still puts out his clothes for him every day.

Prop it open with something so it can’t close completely so you can open it.
Why a string? Can’t a handle work?

Take a hammer to the slat that is jamming and "reshape" it a little?

Thanks for popping in.

They have a dog otherwise I would follow your advice.

Owner too dumb to work out how to replace string/latch with a handle.

So if they are not at home when you need to get out you are trapped? What utter dickheads!!! I hope you get this sorted soon.

Some people have absolutely no common sense. I've known some truly brilliant people, with PhDs...and so clueless about how the world works you are amazed that they can tie their shoes. (Probably why some brilliant person invented velcro...)

Would it help if you stood at the gate with the owner and Showed him the issue?? Maybe say "perhaps I didn't explain it very well, it might work better to show you"

So far it's been when I try to go to work, so they have been home.

Fed up with a few things here. As I said earlier, wish I could move.

I agree with some brilliant people having no common sense.

They knew I couldn't get out, as I called their house and they came out to open it from the other side.

I'm the 1st person to rent this place, so they have no idea of what's to be done. If I go to the Real Estate with complaints, I'll have to either go through the no talking again or asked to move which I can't do. So I'm trapped in more than one way.
